Getting to Ojai

Ojai is 85 miles from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), the closest major international airport. Depending upon the time of day and traffic conditions, it takes between 1 hour 30 minutes up to 3 hours to drive from Los Angeles to Ojai.

Ojai is 43 miles from Santa Barbara Airport (SBA).

Even closer is Ventura, a picturesque small beach city about 15 miles from Ojai. Amtrak trains stop in Ventura, as do shuttle busses running from LAX airport. See below for several options for getting to and from Ojai.

Conference Shuttle to/from LAX

We will be running a limited number of shuttle buses that will run from LAX airport to Ojai on Sunday September 15, and that will return on Friday September 20. Scheduled shuttles are:

  • Sunday September 15. Departing LAX Airport at 3:00PM.
  • Sunday September 15. Departing LAX Airport at 7:00PM. (currently full)
  • Friday September 20. Departing Ojai to LAX at 1:30PM.
You may also take the shuttle as a "walk-up" without a reservation, but only if there is sufficient room (which cannot be guaranteed).

Update Sept 9. As of today, the 7PM Shuttle at 7pm is fully booked, but there is still room on the 3pm shuttle as well as the Sept 20 return shuttle. Meeting points are:

  • September 15 departing at 3 pm: There will two meeting points, one at terminal 2 (Baggage Claim carousel #1) and one at Tom Bradley terminal (in front of Pinkberry Frozen yogurt store on the arrival level). A staff member with an ITQW sign will be there starting at 2:30pm.
  • September 15 departing at 7 pm: (fully booked) There will be a single meeting point at Tom Bradley Terminal terminal (in front of Pinkberry Frozen yogurt store on the arrival level). A staff member with an ITQW sign will be there starting at 6:30pm.
At these meet-up locations, someone will be standing with an ITQW sign who will check you in, and take you to meet the shuttle at the departure time. Note that if you are arriving at a different terminal, you need to walk to the specified meet-up locations.

Car Rental

Conference attendees who wish to drive can rent a car at LAX airport or SBA airport from any of the major car rental agencies. Once at the resort in Ojai, a rental car will not be necessary, as the resort has on-site restaurants and activities, and the town of Ojai is about 10 minute walk from the resort which gives access to many more restaurants, bars, stores, and boutiques. A rental car may be necessary if you plan to explore the area outside of the conference, including hiking, beach, or wine-country opportunities.

Bus from LAX to Ventura then Taxi/Bus to Ojai

It is possible to take a shuttle bus from LAX to Ventura, and then take a taxi to Ojai. The Ventura County Airporter Shuttle makes eight scheduled trips between LAX Airport and Ventura. Reservations are possible, as well as walk-on passengers. Shuttle details are given at www.venturashuttle.com. The taxi between Ventura can be arranged through Topa Topa Taxi Estimated cost is between $25-42 per person for the shuttle, and $50 per cab for the taxi fare.

An even more economical option is to take a bus from Ventura to Ojai. Gold Coast Transit runs the number 16 bus from Ventura to Ojai about 15 times daily. See the website for more details and schedules.

Taxi

If you wish to take a taxi directly from LAX to Ojai, (or vice versa) it can be arranged in advance through Topa Topa Taxi (805-312-2288). Estimated cost is $190-$230 per cab (depending on size), which can accomodate between 3-6 people (depending on size and amount of luggage). A taxi from Santa Barbara Airport (SBA) is estimated at $100. See the link for more information.

Another option is to arrange a Town Car or SUV through Ojai Limo (805-646-0316). See their website for up-to-date pricing and details. Ojai to LAX is estimated at $219 (Town Car, 2-4 people depending on luggage) or $269 (SUV, 3-7 people depending on luggage).

Driving Directions

From Los Angeles Internation Airport (LAX) to Ojai (85 miles)

  • Exit the Airport area and proceed Northbound on the 405.
  • Exit 405 for the Ventura Freeway 101 North, towards Ventura, CA.
  • Stay on 101 for about 50 miles, and then exit on Highway 33 North to Ojai. Ojai is 14 miles from this point.
  • After about seven miles, the freeway will change into a two-lane road and will take you through the communities of Casitas Springs and Oak View. Approximately 2.0 miles past the intersection of Highway 33/150 and Baldwin Road, you will cross Maricopa Highway; continue to Country Club Drive.
  • Turn right onto Country Club Drive, and then make an immediate right onto Country Club Road and proceed to the resort Bell Stand.

From Santa Barbara Airport (SBA) to Ojai (43 miles)

  • Exit the Airport area and proceed Eastbound on the Ventura Freeway 101 through Santa Barbara.
  • Exit 101 at Route 33 Ojai. Ojai is 14 miles from this point.
  • After about seven miles, the freeway will change into a two-lane road and will take you through the communities of Casitas Springs and Oak View. Approximately 2.0 miles past the intersection of Highway 33/150 and Baldwin Road, you will cross Maricopa Highway; continue to Country Club Drive.
  • Turn right onto Country Club Drive, and then make an immediate right onto Country Club Road and proceed to the resort Bell Stand.
